A complete personal tax checklist makes filing faster and more accurate. Ontario residents should collect slips, receipts, benefit information, and prior-year carryforwards before filing.
Collect all income records
Gather employment, pension, investment, EI, self-employment, rental, and foreign income records.
Do not rely on one source only; compare your own records with slips and CRA account information.
Missing slips can delay refunds or create reassessments.
Organize deductions and credits
RRSP contributions, medical expenses, donations, tuition, childcare, employment expenses, moving expenses, and support payments may be relevant.
Receipts should be readable and connected to the tax year.
Family information can affect credits and benefits, so keep dependant details current.
Keep a copy after filing
Save the filed return, confirmation, Notice of Assessment, and supporting documents.
CRA may ask for proof after assessment, even when a return was accepted electronically.
A good archive also helps next year.
